In early December the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) will assemble in Cancún, Mexico, for the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP 16).
Concurrent with the last days of COP 16, from December 7-10, the Rt. Rev. Marc Andrus, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California, and the Rt. Rev. Naudal Gomes, Bishop of the Episcopal Anglican Diocese of Curitiba, Brazil, will convene a parallel global dialogue. The bishops of these two companion dioceses want to use this opportunity to raise the banner of climate justice to the church and the world, they hope this collaboration might point toward justice and reconciliation, given the harsh global context of catastrophic climate change.
The gathering, which is to take place at the Bishop Kellogg Conference Center, San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, will draw the participation of bishops from Guatemala, Central Ecuador, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic, as well as lay and ordained representatives from the Episcopal Church Center and several dioceses.
